Onboarding employees at Inspired Villages

Inspired Villages is one of the UK’s most innovative retirement village brands. The company’s ambitious growth plans mean that they will need to recruit at pace, across a range of sectors and deliver an onboarding programme that gets new starters up to speed quickly with their brand, vision and values.

Our brief was initially to create something which would ‘welcome’ all existing employees to the business and make them feel proud to work there. And which could then be used to ensure that all new employees received an unforgettable onboarding experience.

Our approach

We mapped the onboarding touch-points in a candidate journey, and met them with thoughtful, engaging communications.

We suggested a holistic approach because we recognise that everyone at Inspired Villages has their part to play in offering a genuinely warm welcome.

Our solution

We created an onboarding welcome box, a candidate welcome plan, and a line manager’s guide to onboarding.

Everything in our welcome box was carefully selected, so that candidates could get excited about their new position before they even arrived. Everything was designed to make every new starter feel welcome, and included:

  • a photoframe with a picture and message from their new team members (and a QR code linking to the brand film);
  • a leaflet explaining the values with a cuppa (we included a teabag);
  • our Little Book of Inspiration, featuring real employee stories.

Everything tied in with Inspired Villages’ aim to make all employees feel ‘in’ – read more here about how we launched their mission, vision and values.

The results

The improved onboarding process directly impacted on the engagement of new hires before they started. For example, one candidate admitted that he was having doubts during his notice period. Our welcome box arrived and it encouraged him not to accept the counter-offer he had received.

The best onboarding experience of my career
